Maharashtra CM Warns Against Crossing Limits of Decency
Mumbai: Amid growing outrage over YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia‘s remarks on a roast show, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has weighed in on the controversy. While he admitted he hadn’t watched the video, he stated that anyone who crosses the limits of decency would face action.
Two Mumbai-based lawyers have already filed a police complaint against Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, citing offensive remarks made on the show.
CM Fadnavis on the Viral Controversy
Speaking on the issue, CM Devendra Fadnavis said:
“I have been informed about this, though I have not watched it yet.His statement has added weight to the ongoing debate surrounding the responsibility of digital creators and the boundaries of comedy.

Legal Action Against Allahbadia and Other Comics
Lawyers Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra have formally requested an FIR against Ranveer Allahbadia and other comedians, including Samay Raina and Apoorva Makhija. They have sent their complaint to Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, alleging that the remarks made on the show India’s Got Latent were highly disrespectful to women and warranted legal action.
Offensive Content Sparks Outrage
A viral clip from the show features Allahbadia posing an inappropriate question to a contestant:
The legal complaint asserts that the comics made objectionable remarks about women’s bodies and that such content promotes vulgar thoughts among children. The lawyers have called for the immediate shutdown of the show and legal action against its creators and participants.
Social Media Backlash and Public Reaction
The controversy has sparked massive outrage on social media, with many accusing the show of promoting vulgarity under the guise of comedy.
Prominent journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra strongly criticized the content, stating:

Similarly, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate condemned the comments, saying:
“This isn’t creative. It’s perverse. We can’t normalize such behavior as cool. The fact that this sick comment met loud applause should worry us all.”
Ranveer Allahbadia Issues Public Apology
Following the widespread backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia issued an apology on social media, admitting that his remarks were inappropriate.
In his video statement, he said:
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.”
He also posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry.”

The incident has reignited the debate on freedom of expression in comedy, questioning whether certain forms of humor cross ethical and moral boundaries.
